The cold, wet afternoon didn't stop us from enjoying our time in the forest during Outdoor Learning on Tuesday. We explored the forest once again, building forts and obstacles courses. Then we read a story about how to use our senses to learn more about the forest. After  that, we chose our sit spots. Sit spots are places in the forest that belong only to us, where we sit in silence to better see, hear, feel, and smell what is going on around us.

In math we have counted learning about estimation and discussing strategies about how we can make "careful guesses." Sometimes group of objects can be looked at as two parts that are combined. We took this idea further by using unifix cubes to demonstrate our understanding about how the same number can be shown in 2 different parts (ex. 6: 2+4, 3+3, 6+0 etc.) Sometimes we call these part + part relationships stories or equations.

Yesterday Mrs. Kristensen read us a story called, Good Morning World. The author wrote this book as a way to release good energy and to show respect for all living things. The boys and girls enjoyed writing their own pages of what will become a "Good Morning World" book for our classroom library. We have been practicing our letter formation, as well as using finger spaces between words when we write, and have even begun doing Grade 1 spelling (sounding out of words on our own). Mrs. Kristensen helped us with the spelling of words this time though!

" Good morning eagles waking up from there nests."
" Good morning bunnies sleeping in their beds."

" Good morning bears catching fish."

"Good morning hyenas stealing from nests."
