On Wednesday afternoon we were fortunate to have some mother's of a few of our Open Area friends, come to visit us and teach us all about Diwali. Diwali happens every autumn and celebrates the triumph of light over darkness. It is often referred to as the "festivals of lights."
We used brightly coloured markers to complete beautiful patterns, and used coloured rice to make rangoli designs on plates. We learned that many people adorn the outside of their houses and doorways with coloured rice and sand and create intricate patterns and designs.
Many of us enjoyed trying on bangles and necklaces too! Everything was so colourful and beautiful that we all couldn't help but smile. We were also very brave and tried some traditional Indian sweets that are often served during Diwali. Some of us enjoyed them so much that we even asked for seconds!
On Thursday morning the whole school gathered together in the gym for our Remembrance Day assembly. Mrs. K was so very proud of how respectful and engaged we were. We have been reading many poems and books about Remembrance Day, and even made poppy prints which we carved out of styrofoam and covered in ink. Please take some time to ask us about the assembly and what we saw.
