The following day we gave our paintings a title and talked about the types of skies that were depicted. We painted and wrote about sunsets, the Northern Lights, thunderstorms, and even what the sky looks like when it's full of fireworks.
"Th Northern Lights- The sky can be red and blue."
"Sunrise- It has red, it has yellow, it has orange, it has pink."
"The sky can be a tornado lightening storm."
In math we have continued to reinforce concepts of numbers one through twenty. We have also started to learn about estimating and how to make "careful guesses." Estimation skills are a part of our everyday experience. Estimation can help us better understand the reasonableness of our answers. Now that we can all easily subatize arrangements of 1-8 objects, we are now ready to learn to estimate sets of 8-20. We went on an "estimation safari" where we searched around the room for certain objects, estimated the quantity and then counted how many there actually were.
