Last week was Reading Awareness Week and the children were involved in several school wide activities. On Monday we buddy read with our friends in Grade 7...

On Tuesday we read a hilarious story called "Red Hen," during Outdoor Learning. We then recreated our favourite scene from the book using materials from the forest.

On Wednesday we sat in a circle and thread our favourite books. Many of us chose the same books as our favourites! Dav Pilkey and Mo Willems were very popular authors amongst the children.

On Thursday, our Vice Principal, Mrs. Robertson came to read to the entire Open Area.

On Friday, we celebrated by reading with flashlights in the dark and snuggled up with our stuffies.

  Last week we also used bowling as a metaphor to better understand the concept of subtraction. We learned how to write subtraction number stories (equations) to match what we bowled.

Mrs. Kristensen taught us how to use the Explain Everything app on the iPads. Explain Everything is a presentation app that we may choose to use during our Genius Hour presentations. We learned how to create slides that incorporated drawings, photos, or videos as well as text and voice recordings. We will continue to play around with this app in the coming weeks.
