The children have settled back into our classroom routines very well since the Christmas Break. We have continued with Tuesday morning yoga in the gym, Outdoor Learning, and Choosing Centres in the Open Area.
In Outdoor Learning we were tasked with building a shelter for the wet, cold winter climate. The boys and girls carefully chose their forest materials and worked so well together creating their shelters.
In math we have been continuing to explore the concept of addition, and the idea of
part+ part =whole relationships. We have sung songs, read stories and used dice and dominoes to further our understandings. We also talk a lot about our own ideas about addition and several children already have strategies for solving addition equations.
We have also begun a new unit in science about materials and force and motion. We spent some time categorizing various materials based on shared attributes, and then discussed the properties of each. We were able to identify objects that were made of rubber, glass, wood, paper, plastic and metal.

At our new Choosing Centres we have been...
making slime...

using glass and brayers to make lift prints...

making cards for our friends and family...

building marbles tracks...

and using magnets to search for buried treasures in the sand table...
