Spring is in full swing in Grade 1. We have been enjoying a lot of outside time during Outdoor Learning, KM Club, and whenever we can get the opportunity to take our work outside with us.
We have been observing changes that have occurred this season and sketching them. Mrs. Kristensen read us the "Very Hungry Caterpillar," and we retold the beginning, the middle, and the end using whatever loose parts we could find in the forest.

Last week, in preparation for Easter, we learned about the British tradition of egg rolling. We decorated hard boiled eggs and then had races to see whose egg could roll the furthest down the hill.

When we arrived at school today, after the long weekend, we were excited to see that three baby chicks have already hatched! We expect to see a few more over the next day or so. Once they get a little stronger we will be able to look at them more closely and even hold them!

As if the morning couldn't get more exciting, we also had Mr. Clarke come back in to do a second iPad workshop with us, using the Scratch Jr. app, where we are learning to code our own stories! Please be sure to ask us all about what we have learned so far.

This afternoon we discussed the purpose of maps and read a story all about the different kinds of maps. We then began drawing maps for the habitats of the birds we imagined for our character journals.
