Last week was, of course, another busy one!
Outdoor Learning was a lot drier that the previous week, and the children had the opportunity to record their forest observations in their Outdoor Learning journal, while in their sit spot.

We read a story a story called "Over Under," which beautifully illustrated  animals preparing for winter. Then we discussed the concept of camouflage and looked through photos of different animals and how they camouflage in their surroundings. We also learned about "mimicracy" and how some animals actual change to mimic their surroundings.
Our favourite part of the afternoon, however, was just the free play time that we had. We were so excited for it, that Mrs. K gave us a little more time to do so!

In spelling we practiced the "and" word family, and the children were able to recognize and spell many of the words that followed that spelling pattern. Please continue to practice these words with us each week, and try some of the suggested activities that come home in the "weekly menu" on Mondays.

In science, Mrs. Kristensen gave each group a basket containing a variety of different sized balls. She asked us to choose two; one to represent the sun, and the other the Earth. Our task was then to show the relationship between the two. Many of us already knew that the Sun is larger, and choose a larger ball than the one we called "the Earth". Then we worked together to show how the Earth rotates around the Sun, causing day and night. Evan and Ben also chose to create a diagram to show what they already knew about the relationship the Earth has with the Sun. We also discussed the importance of the Sun to life on Earth.

Afterwards, we did the same activity to show and discuss the Earth's relationship with the moon. We will continue our investigation of the Moon later this week.
The children have also been enjoying creating constellations with a variety of materials at the inquiry table.
